Our friends Brad and Liz came for dinner last week with their two children, Anya and Dane. The kids had a great time together. Liz and I have already discussed marriage plans for Dane and Emma. We're happy they're getting to know each other early.
Funny things Emma has been saying lately:
- Every time she hears someone say "Barack Obama" on T.V. or radio, she says (quizzically), "Rock-a-bye Bama?".
- She's been watching a lot of "Dora," so when you say "thank you" she's likely to reply "De nada" (or sometimes "fenada").
- She says "totally." As in, "I lost my book. I totally can't find it." Our little Salt Lake Valley girl.
-She also says "that's cool" a lot.
-This morning after we ate she said, "Thank you for a hearty breakfast."
-She's very attached to her little blanket (which is now in rags and tatters). Sometimes she'll take a big sniff of it and say, "My blanket smells like my blanket."
-A couple of months ago we saw "To Kill a Mockingbird" on TV, the scene at the end where Scout discovers Boo Radley standing behind the door. Then just the other day we were watching it again, same scene, and Joe says, "Hey, Emma, what's the little girl going to say to the guy behind the door?" and she pipes up with "Hey Boo!" That's our girl, a regular cinemaphile.
- The other day she came up to me as I was sitting at the computer and said. "Sometimes you look really old...Why?" Uh oh kiddo, you're on to me.

She's such a hoot. Our Mary has also shown an affinity for Barack Obama, which regardless of your politics, is just a fun name to say. She says all the time, "I like Barack Obama." Matt finally taught her to say, "I like John McCain," just to even things out.
Start keeping track of Emma's comments, she's quite a gal. When we were there the other day she was trying to open a package of something and we said "Emma, do you want some help?" Looking very serious she said, rather emphatically, "No thank you; I can do it myself." And she did.
We love her hugs.
hilarious! i love her valley speak.
Love the bangs! She is soooo cute. I love the funny things she says. The old comment....not funny. Okay it was, just trying to make you feel better.
I like the bangs, Em got her hair cut and we kept the bangs too. I also loved her comments except the one about looking old. That is NOT true:) "Thank you for a hearty breakfast" is really funny!
My favorite of these Emma quotes is "my blanket smells like....my blanket!" and I object, no, I strenuously object to the "old" comment but I've also already quoted it to someone at work so in a way it also makes perfect sense - sometimes "old" is a passing look, and then we gather ourselves and get on with looking spunky!

I, like, totally can't believe that Emma can, like, use words like totally, or hearty breakfast. She is light years ahead of when I last talked to her! As for looking old......ask her how you are supposed to look shortly after having had hip replacement surgery - spritely? Emma and Julia are definitely related :) Julia's blue blanky smelled like.....her blue blanky, definitely hers. Ask her what she did to the white lace that went around the blanket to make it "hers". We all need security. And a familiar smell.
Julie
Haha- she really says those things?! That's so funny! I'm glad she sat w/ me for a little at Ben's baby shower- she's so cute.
Also, I watched the U v. UNLV womens volleyball game on tv tonight- Cat's totally the star! I had no idea- tell her to keep up the good work!
